Refuse Collection Services Policy

Policy Purpose

This policy sets out how the Council will charge for refuse collection.

Policy Statements

The following statements apply to charges for refuse collection within New Plymouth District:

Refuse Collection Charges

1. Each separately used or inhabited portion of any property or building used as a household unit within a designated refuse collection area will be charged the uniform targeted rate for refuse collection and disposal, as fixed by the Council each year.
2. Waiving of Refuse Collection Charges
3. The uniform targeted rate for refuse collection and disposal may be waived where an apartment house or other group of residential units has a private arrangement for the collection and disposal of refuse to the satisfaction of the Council’s Solid Waste Officer, and where the owner(s) of the residential unit(s) have confirmed, in writing, that they have accepted total responsibility for the removal and disposal of refuse from their property.
4. The Manager Financial Services has the delegated authority to waive refuse collection charges as detailed in this policy. 
5. The imposition of charges on newly occupied residences and any waiving of charges under this policy may apply from the month that the service is provided, or ceased respectively.
